Professional Summary: Merle has 30 years’ experience helping executives reach their fullest potential through individualized goal setting and leadership development. Trained as a consultant through the Leadership Laboratory® of the Gilburg Leadership Institute, Merle aspires to elicit the internal resources of emerging and established leaders by creating an environment that promotes self- awareness, personal commitment, and leadership practice. She successfully brought this work to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in their SES program and state and local entities in their leadership management programs. In her coaching practice, Merle has worked with leaders at the Department of Homeland Security, United States Air Force, NASA and General Dynamics. As founding director of the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County, MD, Merle built a non-profit organization offering conflict management skill training and leadership development into a model association for the State of Maryland. This experience has been built into her coaching practice as she assists other non-profit organizations to develop successful Board relationships and responsibilities and coaches Executive Directors to excellence. Merle combines her mediation experience and training with her coaching expertise into the sub specialty of conflict coaching, teaching upper level management the skills they need to shift conflict in the workplace into opportunities for growth and creativity. Merle uses a co-creative model of coaching and adheres to the International Coach Federation core competencies. She follows the principle that the practice of conscious leadership requires a meaningful understanding of our individual nature, habits and beliefs. By providing powerful insights coupled with simple practices geared toward leveraging a client’s natural strengths as a leader, she places emphasis on a client driven agenda for the coaching work. By applying principles of deep and strategic listening to the client’s verbal and non-verbal messages, and asking powerful and challenging questions to stimulate new perspectives, the process opens the door to forwarding the actions of the client.
